Crystal Attributes
What follows is a brief guide to crystal attributes. Please note that all of these attributes are derived from experience, anecdotal evidence and from crystal experts but do not constitute 'medical advice'. If you are unwell please consult a health professional.

Amethyst
Appearance: dark purple, violet to pale lavender; can be quite clear and translucent or more opaque.
Calms a busy mind; good when thoughts are going round and round. This is not only helpful when needing to relax but also to clear the mind to allow flowing thought process. Helps with insomnia both as a mind calmer from within and also from external influence such as geopathic stress.
Jasper (Red)
Appearance: slightly dull red, satin sheen finish when tumbled, opaque, with some patterning.
Works with the base chakra, influencing and supporting all that the base chakra co-ordinates, such as drive and focus. A balancing stone harmonising the mental / emotional layers of the aura.
Helps protect against energetic outside influence, it is grounding and strengthens boundaries.
Rose Quartz
Appearance: Pale pink or rosy - can be very pale, almost white. Clear or opaque.
Works with the heart chakra bringing balanced giving and receiving of love and 'service'. Strengthens love, acceptance and forgiveness of the self. Emotional healing.
Smoky Quartz
Appearance: brown to browny-yellow, natural state is translucent, points often pales at one end than the other.
Very effective for grounding, linking with the earth and base chakras. Good for meditation to dissolve stress. Said to be protective against electromagnetic discharge.
Tiger's Eye
Appearance: brown and yellow stripes or banding reminiscent of wood, satin sheen when tumbled.
Works with the base, sacral and solar plexus chakras, balancing their energy and connecting to the Earth. Helpful for grounding on several levels. Said to bring focus and integration on many levels.
Tourmaline (Black)
Also known as Schorl.
Appearance: Striated (like strands all going in the same direction) but when tumbled this is less noticeable, has a satin sheen.
A protective stone connecting with the base chakra to assist with grounding. Thought to protect against electromagnetic discharge and other negative influence and feelings of negativity.
